1. The Subtle Stranger
This look is all about subtlety in its execution and looks great on both men and women. We’re going to start with some black, slim leg jeans, black boots, a black bomber jacket, and a black beanie. Sound too goth for you? Just wait. The brilliance of this ensemble comes together when you add the R-QK-WHITE Hawaiian shirt underneath the bomber jacket and put on the loudest pair of shin socks you own. Now, when we say underneath, we mean you’re going to zip that jacket all the way up so that only the collar of the Hawaiian shirt is visible. The effect here is that once the Hawaiian shirt is noticed, it recontextualizes the entire outfit into something more playful than it was at first blush. Complete the look with a silver rope. We’re going to start with the denim: You’re going to want to start with light wash jeans and a light wash denim jacket that are as closely matching in tone as possible. We like this look with wide-leg, straight jeans. We don’t recommend flares, but hey, live your truth! You’re going to leave the jacket open for this one and roll up the sleeves halfway up your forearms so that everyone can see the tasteful white-on-white print of the shirt that goes on underneath. For shoes, we want chunky, high top sneakers with a lighter color, preferably white to match your shirt. Dunks or 54-11’s will work nicely, but you’ll be good with any white high tops. Leave the top two or three buttons open and make sure that you’re wearing a white, crewneck undershirt. For accessories, we love a small, cross-body bag and a gold watch. If you’re feeling extra spicy, wear a bandana around your neck (but we must caveat that you’ll probably want to forgo the body bag so that the fit isn’t too cluttered). If it’s too chilly out, pop a zip-up hoodie under the denim jacket. The hoodie should be crimson red or saffron yellow to add some contrast.
